Settings
This section describes all available settings in Stage Cue.
Board Configuration
Current Configuration
This is a premium feature.
Each configuration holds up to 128 buttons. You can create as many configurations as you need and switch between them here. Think of each configuration as a separate board set up for a specific show or project.
Tap a configuration in the list to switch to it.
On iOS, swipe left on a configuration to reveal the Rename, Duplicate, and Delete options. Note that Rename and Delete are only available for configurations that are not currently active.
On macOS, these options are available via the right-click context menu.
Background Image
The Background Image is shown on the external screen whenever no video is playing. Tap this option to load an image from your device's storage or photo library.
Default Video Settings
Set the defaults that Stage Cue applies to every new video button you add. These settings do not apply to image buttons. You can still open Video Settings later to fine-tune a specific video.
Play Mode
Choose the default playback mode for new videos:
- Stop: Playback ends when the video finishes.
- Loop: The video repeats continuously until you stop it or start another video.
- Play Next: Automatically starts the next video when the current one finishes.
- Background: Set one video as the background video — it plays automatically whenever no other video is running. The background video loops continuously and can be stopped by tapping its button, which will then show the background image.
Mute Audio
When turned on, any audio in newly added videos will be muted by default.
Global MIDI Trigger
To assign a global trigger, tap Learn, then press the button, pad, or key on your MIDI controller that you want to use. Stage Cue will remember that input and use it for the selected action. Tap Learn again at any time to change it.
If you prefer to type the command instead, you can enter it manually. The required format is explained in MIDI Format.
Stop Playback
Assign this trigger when you want a single button on your MIDI controller to immediately stop whichever video is currently playing.
Play Next
This trigger jumps to the next video on the board and starts playing it. If nothing is currently playing, or you are already on the last video, Stage Cue wraps around and plays the first video instead.
MIDI Setup
Network MIDI Sessions
On iOS, Stage Cue can connect to other devices on the same Wi-Fi network to receive MIDI signals. This list shows all compatible devices currently found on your network. Tap a device to connect — once connected, Stage Cue will receive MIDI commands from that device wirelessly.
On macOS, you connect to network MIDI sessions using the Audio MIDI Setup app that comes with your Mac. Here's how to connect to, for example, Stage Traxx running on an iPhone:
- Open the Audio MIDI Setup app.
- Go to MIDI Studio, then open MIDI Network Setup.
- Follow the steps shown in the screenshot below:

Note
Both devices must be connected to the same Wi-Fi network to use this feature.
Bluetooth MIDI Devices
Stage Cue also supports Bluetooth MIDI devices. Use this option to scan for and connect to nearby Bluetooth MIDI devices.
Virtual MIDI Ports
When enabled, Stage Cue creates virtual MIDI connections that let it communicate with other apps on the same device — no physical MIDI hardware needed. This is useful if you want to link Stage Cue with another music or performance app. If you don't need this, you can turn it off to keep your MIDI device list tidy.
Device Settings
Keep Screen On
Keep this switch on during a show to stop iOS from dimming the display or locking the device. Turn it off again when you want normal auto-lock behaviour back.
In App Purchases
Unlock Stage Cue's premium features by tapping Upgrade to Premium. If you've previously purchased the upgrade, you can restore it using the Restore Purchase option.
Purchases are tied to your Apple ID. Once purchased, you can use the full version on any device associated with that Apple ID.
